The Qlik Sense story continues – the last release of 2018 is again filled with numerous innovations and cool features. For the first time, the product’s engine includes Qlik Machine Learning capabilities. So there is a lot to expect in this area in 2019. The following shows an overview of the November release highlights:
Dashboard Extension Bundle
By the Dashboard Extension Bundle, the first standard integrated extensions made their way into Qlik Sense. The feature can optionally be installed during the update. By choosing this option, you will find five new extensions in “Custom Objects”, which are now officially delivered with Qlik Sense and fully supported.
- With the “Date Range Picker” you can select a single date or a range of dates from a calendar.
- The “Navigation Buttons” can be used to define selections and actions for the entire app.
- Using the “Tab Container” several tabs can be created within a Qlik Sense object in order to be able to display different visualizations or analysis views compressed for a selection.
- A “Show/Hide Container” extension helps to display several visualizations in an object depending on the current selection criteria.
- The “Variable Input” extension allows you to specify values for selections using buttons, drop-down menus and text input fields.
Insight Advisor
To further enhance the Insight Advisor introduced in June this year, the Cognitive Engine in Qlik Sense is now equipped with machine learning capabilities for pattern recognition and applications. The engine learns from user interaction with the product to continuously improve the relevance of the proposed insights and adapt them to the company. Currently, suggestions for insights can be hidden permanently, the use of certain fields can be defined or excluded for following suggestions. This function will be expanded continuously in future releases.
In addition, customization options have been implemented for the proposed insights, so the used values and dimensions can be adjusted directly.
Alternate States
Comparative analyses are now possible by the new master item “Alternate States”. Using this function, different selections can be applied to the same dimension at the same time and compared in one or more visualizations. Once created, an “Alternate State” can be applied to individual objects or entire worksheets. “Alternate States” can also be integrated as expressions directly via “Set Analysis” to compare two values in a single visualization.
Set Analysis
Another new feature is an editor for “Set Analysis Expressions”, which allows existing selections for key figures.
New field setting “Always one selected value”
The new setting option “Always one selected value” can be used to obtain the selection of exactly one value for favored fields. This is a useful option, since multiple selection of values isn’t reasonable for many evaluation objects.
More display options
New layer for map displays
A new layer is now available for geo evaluations, which helps to display diagrams for the geo points to show the distribution of values.
Extended pie chart
Pie charts now support an expression for the radius, which enables new diagram types. In this way, additional values can now be displayed in a diagram.
As always, the new release also features some improvements in stability and performance. Further information can be found in the Release Note for Qlik Sense November 2018.
