Useful features for improved system operation in Business Central 2025 Wave 2

During the current release wave, Dynamics 365 Business Central has once again undergone innovations and optimizations in various areas. The general user experience has also been improved again.

To make it as easy and convenient as possible to use and increase productivity at work, Business Central has been optimized with this version in areas such as data search, changing the column width and direct access via the keyboard.

Improved data search in columns

Now users can switch between the “legacy” search, which searches through all columns, and the “modern” search, which only searches in columns that are optimized for full-text search. The modern search is available for selected tables/lists. It is activated via the “Use optimized text search in lists” button in the feature management and then used by default on the corresponding pages. Switching between the search methods is done via options in the search box.

The modern search is faster and more flexible, as it also delivers results for imprecise terms, for example, and allows search terms in quotation marks to narrow the results. It should be noted that the modern search mode doesn’t search the contents of all columns (as the “legacy” mode), but only those with the respective symbol.

Resize column width in lists

In Business Central, users can quickly adjust the column widths in lists – regardless of whether they are allowed to perform personalizations now. The changes are device-dependent, so you can set the width separately for each device.

The columns can be adjusted by dragging or double-clicking (optimum width, as in Excel). The changes are saved in the browser but can be lost when the browser history is deleted.

Direct access via keyboard

Since Business Central now only runs in the web browser, some frequently used operating concepts have initially disappeared. As a result, the mouse had to be used more often again. Especially when entering orders, where fast data entry is crucial, every keystroke and click counts. With the new fall version, Business Central has now integrated familiar functions “from the past” as well as from applications such as Excel and Word to increase efficiency for keyboard users.

With access keys and key tips, users can now quickly navigate through the user interface and perform actions without having to use the mouse. When the Alt key is pressed, letters or letter combinations appear, allowing direct navigation and execution of actions. Previously, this function was only available for English client languages, but with the new version it is also available for German. The letters are generated by the platform and cannot be customized.

Multiple file upload with drag & drop

A new drag & drop function also allows multiple files to be attached to Business Central data records, simplifying file management. Multiple files can be easily selected at the same time and dragged to the corresponding file upload dialog. The new function therefore particularly supports users who work with several different files and thus optimizes data organization and accessibility.

The “Document Attachments List FactBox” (available on many document pages in the Attachments part of the FactBox pane), the “Incoming Document Files FactBox” (available on pages relating to incoming documents) and the “Email Editor” page (for drafting and sending emails from Business Central) can now be used to open a file upload dialog. Multiple files can be uploaded there by either selecting the files manually via “Browse” or by dragging and dropping multiple files into the file upload dialog.
