Business Central 2023 Release Wave 2

With the start of October, Microsoft has once again rolled out the new versions of its business applications, including Dynamics 365 Business Central. This year’s fall release again contains various new functionalities and improvements.

In addition to several innovations in the application and the development environment, as well as a general improvement in user experience, the focus of the new Business Central version this October is once again on the interaction with Microsoft 365 and Power Platform, as well as improved administration.

More productivity through new application features

Continuous application improvements are once again an important component of this year’s fall wave. This time, investments were again made in the optimization of inventory and warehouse processes.

In addition, the new update also offers innovations in other application areas. In future, for example, it will be possible to work more effectively with timesheets, item journals and warehouse worksheets can be edited in Excel, and document and posting dates for sales and purchases can be synchronized. Also announced was an built-in rich text editor for data entry to all media fields in Business Central. Pages can also now have all columns added unless they contain internal information and are not intended for integration.

Optimized user experience

The second release cycle 2023 also includes some enhancements, which for example support the input, update and correction of data. Among other things, data searches can be accessed from anywhere in Business Central in the future. In addition, existing table fields can be added for page optimization, summary data can be viewed from editable fields, and new actions can be used to navigate the inline validation dialog or fix errors. Browser tabs can also be better distinguished when multitasking.

There will also be innovations for the mobile app. In future, barcodes can be scanned with the mobile Business Central app for iOS and Android. It will also be possible to search for pages and data in the mobile app.

Better interaction with Microsoft 365 and Power Platform

The new release cycle also offers innovations in the interaction with other Microsoft 365 applications. This time, the focus is on security and reliability, especially when transferring data to Excel.

The previous release introduced several new templates and a simplified approval experience based on Power Automate. With the new release, this area is improved with the introduction of several changes.

In addition to the listed innovations, Business Central will also be optimized in other areas (e.g. concerning the platform) with the upcoming fall version. For example, faster loading times, increased performance due to fewer locks in the database, and improved processes for update releases have been announced.
